Throughout the course of this season, Hansi Flick has managed to restore several Barcelona players back to their best. Even players who seemed to have dropped off in terms of the quality that they can produce, the German coach enabled them to find their way back. Unfortunately, however, that did not mean everyone at Barcelona managed to do that.
Certain players have continued to see a lack of playing time remain a prevalent feature of their season so far. The likes of Inaki Pena, for instance, waited quite some time for regular first-team opportunities but ended up not getting them due to some other reasons.
However, then there is the case of Ansu Fati. Once hailed as the prodigy who would serve as the face of FC Barcelona for the years to come, he is now a mere shell of the destined version that once seemed to await him. Reality, as it is, has simply not been too kind to the 22-year-old forward and he remains a player who is now being linked to a move away from the club in the summer.
According to AS, Fati can even be seen as arguably one of the few failures for Hansi Flick at the club. That is because while he has managed to revitalize several other players this season, the young Spaniard remains as lost as ever and seems to have no likely chance of finding a resurgence this season.
In fact, his value as per Transfermarkt has now fallen to a depressing new low of just €5 million. At the peak of his short career, he used to be valued at an impressive €80 million and that estimation was a valid reflection of the talent and importance that he had within Barcelona.
Now, instead, there seem to be more reasons for the club to offload the player than there are for him to be kept at Barça. Still, with a contract until 2027, there is no telling what happens from here onwards when taking into consideration the player’s own motives as well.
Opportunities remain scarce, even with a Barcelona team full of fatigue preparing to face off against CA Osasuna. For Flick, it seems to be clear enough that the young Spanish forward is arguably the one player who he was unable to help return to his best.
