Several players from the FC Barcelona reserve team and the youth ranks have made their place in Hansi Flick’s squad this season, with Marc Casadó being the most notable. The Spanish midfielder has established himself as a key part of the Blaugrana starting eleven since the injury suffered by Marc Bernal at the start of the season.

In addition to the midfielder, other youngsters are also getting a lot of minutes with the first team. One such player who has clearly taken a significant leap this season but who has still not been as conspicuous is the 22-year-old defender Gerard Martín.

After impressing with the Barcelona Atlèticin his first season at the Catalan club, the young defender made his way to the first team last summer.

The pre-season tour of the USA was a turning point in his career, as since that time, he has been getting significant playing time with the first team. In fact, he currently stands 12th in the list of Blaugrana players who have played the most minutes this season.

As SPORT has reported, there is another notable development awaiting the youngster, as he is going to sign a contract extension with Barcelona this week, most probably after the team returns from its trip to Lisbon on Thursday.

With this new contract, the Blaugrana side will showcase its confidence in another youngster. His release clause will rise up to €100 million and this new contract will remain in force till 2028.

Only recently, the Catalans have also renewed youngsters like Marc Bernal, Marc Casadó, Héctor Fort, and Sergi Domínguez.

Furthermore, with this new contract, Gerard Martín will also be expected to retain the important role that he has got in Flick’s team up to this part of the season.

With a lot of matches coming for Barcelona in La Liga, UEFA Champions League, and Copa del Rey, there will certainly be no shortage of opportunities to play more minutes on the pitch.
