Dani Olmo remains the only big signing that FC Barcelona have made for Hansi Flick since the German tactician’s appointment as the Blaugrana head coach last summer.
However, the Spaniard alone has proved to be quite a decisive player for the Barcelona coach, and once again showcased his decisive nature in the last league game against Celta Vigo, as he helped his team get a 4-3 win despite being two goals down by the hour mark.
Right with his introduction in the 59th minute, the Spanish midfielder started dealing damage to the visitors’ defence, and he only needed three minutes to score a goal and make the scoreline 2-3.
Then, he was once again pivotal in the very last minutes of the game, as he won a penalty, which Raphinha converted to give his side the win.
With this performance to back his claim, SPORT notes that Dani Olmo is almost sure to start the upcoming game against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final, when he can play either as an attacking midfielder or as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski as a false 9.
This game was only the latest indication of how well the midfielder has adapted to this Barcelona team, despite the significant problems he has faced since his return. He has suffered from several physical problems during this time, while his registration issues with La Liga have also kept him from participating in some games, in addition to bringing a lot of uncertainty about his future.
Lately, Flick has been using him with a lot of caution, to ensure he does not suffer from any relapses, and also because of the high degree of competition in the midfield. Still, Olmo’s influence on the team is clear from the 9 goals and 6 assists he has accumulated despite his limited participation.
The Spaniard provides Flick with a clear advantage, particularly in games when Barcelona are facing tight defence. But irrespective of what defensive approach Carlo Ancelotti takes in the upcoming Copa del Rey final, Dani Olmo will hopefully once again prove to be decisive for his side.
