Coventry City will hope the focus of this transfer window is on players arriving at the club and not ones who could leave.

The Sky Blues had a very hectic summer transfer window last year, as the club lost Gustavo Hamer and Viktor Gyokeres to big-money moves.

That resulted in the club being very busy as they brought in several new players as their replacements.

Mark Robins will be keen to strengthen his side once again in this transfer window as they look to get over the line and secure Premier League football.

Therefore, Robins will want the talk to be about which players could arrive, but that doesn’t mean some players won’t be leaving the club over the coming weeks.

With that said, here at Football League World, we have looked at three players likely to leave Coventry City by 11 p.m. on Friday, August 30th...

Jake Bidwell

Jake Bidwell may be a player who splits Coventry’s fanbase, as he is someone who has done reasonably well since joining the club, but with Jay Dasilva the likely first choice at left-back, an exit could well be on the cards this summer.

The 31-year-old joined the Sky Blues in January 2022, and until last season, he was a regular for the club.

The defender played 45 times for Coventry in the 2022/23 season but lost his place to Dasilva as he joined the club on a free transfer last summer.

Bidwell has now entered the final 12 months of his contract at the club, and while Robins will likely want to keep the player, as he is a very good squad player to have, he could possibly be on the move in the next few weeks.

That is because, as stated, while he featured a lot for the club last season, he wasn’t as regular in the starting XI as he was in the previous campaign.

Furthermore, his contract will expire next summer, so unless a new deal is agreed, the defender would leave for nothing. That means this transfer window is the best chance for the club to get a fee for the player, and that could potentially come into the thinking of Coventry.

Kai Andrews

Kai Andrews is a very up-and-coming player, whom Coventry City will no doubt hold in high regard.

Andrews is only 17, so he has been mainly playing in the club’s youth team, but he did appear twice for the club last season in the Championship.

The appearances were just short cameos, adding up to a total of three minutes, but even still, it showed that he is someone that Robins has obviously been keeping an eye on and is slowly introducing him to first-team football at a high level.

But the next stage in the player's development may be a loan move away from Coventry, as the 17-year-old needs to continue playing football as much as he can, and ideally, if he can do that at a higher level than youth football, that would be hugely beneficial to him and the club.

A loan move in this transfer window could be the perfect next step, as it means he can play higher-level football, and he can have a platform to show Robins and his club what he can bring to the table.

It is unlikely Andrews will feature regularly for Coventry in this new season; therefore, a loan switch seems like the best move for a player his age.

Fabio Tavares

Some Coventry fans may have forgotten that Fabio Tavares is still at their football club, as the forward’s time with the Sky Blues has been very frustrating.

When the 23-year-old joined the club in February 2021 from Rochdale, there was great optimism and excitement about the deal.

However, Coventry or Tavares have yet to benefit from it, as the player has had to deal with several injury setbacks that have meant he’s only played 28 times for the club in all competitions in three and a half years.

Last season, Tavares played 10 times for Coventry in all competitions, and he was able to show glimpses of why he was brought to the club in the first place, scoring twice in the FA Cup and once in the Championship.

But with the forward now in the final year of his contract, he is at a crucial point in his career, and with Coventry already having some very good options in the forward line, the club could decide to cut their losses with Tavares.

The Sky Blues may struggle to get a decent fee for the player given his injury problems, but if they believe he is better off leaving and finding a new club, then they could allow him to leave in this transfer window before he walks away for nothing in 12 months.
