3 potential Jayden Stockley replacements Charlton Athletic should target this month | OneFootball

Gillingham are among a group of League One and Two clubs interested in a move for Jayden Stockley this month, as per Football Insider.

The 29-year-old has not built on the promise he showed in scoring 20 goals in all competitions last term, with the club moving away from a direct style of play impacting Stockley’s effectiveness across the first half of the season.

Should Stockley move on, the Addicks will only have Miles Leaburn, 19, Chuks Aneke, unfit, and Daniel Kanu, 18, as realistic striker options and a replacement would be essential for the depth of the squad.

Striker’s tend to be tricky to recruit, especially in January, but the Addicks should be operating at a higher level in identifying targets with Andy Scott being appointed Technical Director at the back end of 2022.

Here, we have taken a look at three potential Stockley replacements the Addicks should consider…

Sam Nombe

The most attractive option would be Exeter City’s in-form marksman Sam Nombe.

The 24-year-old has stepped up to League One with ease this term, scoring 11 and assisted six in the league for the Grecians, and would add some pace in behind that the Addicks have been lacking, along with a potential partner for Leaburn at the top of the pitch.

Nombe would require significant investment, no one really knows what the budget is looking like at The Valley this month.

Daniel Jebbison

Jebbison is a very highly rated young striker at Sheffield United, who thrived on loan at Burton Albion in the first half of 2021/22.

The 19-year-old has struggled for playing time at Bramall Lane since and could do with another temporary spell in the third tier.

The Addicks only have two loan players at the club at the moment, Steven Sessegnon and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, giving them plenty of wriggle room in prioritising that area of the market.

Bonne’s contract at Queens Park Rangers this week was terminated by mutual consent, presumably to accelerate a move away.

Charlton signed the 27-year-old from Leyton Orient in the summer of 2019, he went on to perform above expectations in 2019/20 to score 11 Championship goals having played in the National League the campaign prior.

His popularity amongst the supporter base is fairly hit and miss, but that could be more down to the Addicks’ second tier relegation in 2019/20 more than anything else.

Bonne scored 12 goals on loan at Ipswich Town last season, including a very encouraging first half of the campaign, and came close to re-joining the Addicks on transfer deadline day in September.

The two-time Zimbabwe international is an instinctive finisher when onsong and may feel he has unfinished business in SE7.
