Manchester United have had an underwhelming Premier League campaign. They are presently 13th in the table with only 26 points on the board.
Manager Ruben Amorim has been vocal about the need for reinforcement. The club seem focused on signing a new left wing-back this winter.
Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu is the priority target, and Corriere dello Sport (page 17) claim that he ‘has an agreement’ to join United for some time.
However, United still need to secure a transfer deal with Lecce, who are reluctant to negotiate.
The Red Devils recently made an offer worth £27 million plus bonuses for the 20-year-old, but Lecce don’t plan to sanction his sale for less than £33.6m.
United have not given up in their pursuit, and they are ‘prepared to increase’ the pressure with a renewed proposal close to Lecce’ valuation for Dorgu.
The youngster has made good progress over the past few seasons at Lecce. He started his career as a left-back but has since played in several positions.
He can also operate from the left wing, right wing or wing-back roles. Amorim will likely consider him as an option to compete with Diogo Dalot at left wing-back.
The Dane has won an impressive 6.8 duels per Serie A game this term. He has also registered two tackles, 1.8 clearances and almost five ball recoveries on average.
Dorgu is defensively strong, but he has also made goal contributions. He has three goals and one assist. His attributes make him an ideal signing for Amorim.
United’s continuous pursuit suggests that the manager has recommended the signing. The Red Devils could land Dorgu’s services with an improved third bid.
