Ex-Liverpool star Fowler is believed to be in the mix to succeed Ian Evatt at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
Robbie Fowler is in the frame for the Bolton Wanderers job after submitting his name to be considered for the vacancy.
This is according to the Daily Mirror, who believe the former England international is interested in the opportunity to take on the top job at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
Bolton are currently in ninth place, having endured a fairly underwhelming season so far.
In truth, they haven't managed to fully recover from their play-off final defeat against Oxford United in May, with their poor performance at Wembley condemning them to another season in League One.
Following this disappointment, they would have been looking to bounce back this term. And though they are still in with a chance of securing a top-six place at the end of the season, they didn't seem to be heading in the right direction under former boss Ian Evatt.
Evatt, 43, left the club earlier this week following their midweek defeat against Charlton Athletic, and it will be up to a new manager to get them back on track.
Plenty of names have been linked with the job in recent days, including Steven Schumacher, Stephen Robinson and current Rotherham United manager Steve Evans.
Ryan Lowe, according to BBC Radio Manchester, has shown an interest in the job, having been out of work for a few months now after leaving Preston North End during the very early stages of his season.
Fowler has had an interesting managerial career, managing Muangthong United in Thailand, Brisbane Roar in Australia, East Bengal in India and Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia.
However, despite his lengthy playing career in England, he hasn't managed in his home nation at this stage.
But according to the Daily Mirror, he is keen to take the top job at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, and has put his name forward for the role.
Fowler has some managerial experience under his belt - and the fact he hasn't managed in England before will allow him to be unpredictable - which could work in Bolton's favour.
But in their current situation, it would probably be ideal for Wanderers if they brought in someone who has experience managing at this level.
Lowe and Schumacher have done well with Plymouth Argyle in this division before - and both could be shrewd additions.
The pair also have experience managing above the third tier, with both having jobs in the Championship before.
