5️⃣ spicy fixtures you must watch this weekend 🌶

Ipswich vs Aston Villa

Ipswich Town are still awaiting their first win since returning to the Premier League and The Tractor Boys will be keen to end that wait at Portman Road this weekend.

The visit of Aston Villa should set the stage for a buoyant atmosphere, as Kieran McKenna’s underdogs take on a Champions League side on home soil. Sam Morsy’s late goal salvaged a third consecutive draw for Ipswich last time out but the newly-promoted outfit will need to start turning draws into wins sooner rather than later.

After conquering West Ham and Leicester on the road, Aston Villa are aiming to win each of their first three away games in a Premier League season for just the second time.

Newcastle vs Manchester City

How will Manchester City cope without Rodri? We’re about to find out.

The Spaniard’s season-ending injury has added a new narrative to the title race, with the influential midfielder sidelined for the campaign with an ACL injury. Pep Guardiola would no doubt have liked an easier test in his side’s first fixture without their midfield fulcrum, with Newcastle no easy challenge for the champions.

The last four league meetings at St James’ Park have averaged 5.5 goals per game. More of the same this weekend, please.

Manchester United vs Tottenham

Manchester United host Tottenham Hotspur with both teams in danger of being cut adrift in the top-four race. Unconvincing starts have increased the pressure on Erik ten Hag and Ange Postecoglou, with the former in particular feeling the heat.

Languishing 11th and 10th respectively in the table after five games, the loser at Old Trafford could find themselves under serious fire.

Bayern Munich vs Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen’s title success last season was arguably the story of the European football season, as Xabi Alonso’s side ended Bayern Munich’s dominance of the Bundesliga.

Leverkusen did not just oust Bayern but ripped the title from their iron grip, completing the first undefeated season in German top-flight history and adding the DFB-Pokal to achieve a double.

All eyes will be on the Allianz Arena this weekend, as a free-scoring Bayern host the champions. The teams sit first and second in the table respectively, with Bayern having been in relentless goalscoring form with 20 goals scored in their last three games.

Tune in for this one.

Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid

Spain’s capital will pause this weekend as eternal rivals Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid do battle.

Diego Simeone’s dogs of war will be keen to get one over their glamorous neighbours, who have been supercharged by the signing of Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain. As Barcelona threaten to escape in the La Liga title race, points are crucial to both teams to remain in touch with the immaculate league leaders.

The midfield match-up between England teammates Jude Bellingham and Conor Gallagher is a fascinating sub-plot to this one.
