Real Madrid are facing a significant challenge ahead of their crucial matches against Atletico Madrid and Manchester City.
The Spanish giants have been dealt a major setback with the news that key defender David Alaba will be sidelined for at least two to three weeks. This development leaves a noticeable gap in their defensive setup.
Alaba’s journey at Real Madrid has been a mix of promising moments and unfortunate setbacks. After a strong debut season in which he played 46 matches, the defender’s career trajectory took a downward turn due to recurring injuries.
The most severe blow came in December 2023 when he suffered a cruciate ligament rupture, keeping him off the pitch for a staggering 381 days.
Since joining the club three and a half years ago, Alaba has endured 11 injuries, excluding a game he missed due to COVID-19. Many of these injuries have been muscle-related, particularly affecting his adductors.

In total, he has spent 513 days sidelined and has missed 83 matches for Real Madrid. These figures paint a concerning picture of the Austrian defender’s injury history.
The latest setback, fortunately, is a minor one, expected to keep him out for just a few weeks. Such injuries are common among players who have experienced prolonged periods of inactivity or serious knee issues.
Nonetheless, concerns about Alaba’s physical condition and his recurring injuries persist.
Real Madrid had high hopes for Alaba’s contribution in the second half of the season. The club’s defensive strategy was partly built around his partnership with Rüdiger to form a solid backline.
However, his absence now disrupts those plans, leaving the team to adjust without making any defensive signings during the winter transfer window.
For Alaba to regain his importance in the squad, continuity and injury-free periods are essential. His ability to maintain fitness will be crucial for Real Madrid as they navigate the demanding fixtures ahead.
The team’s hopes rest on his swift recovery and a future where injuries no longer hinder his contributions on the pitch.
