A clear, decisive derby victory. At Vismara, Gianpiero Piovani's Inter, who secured Champions League qualification last time out, ran out commanding 4-1 winners over AC Milan to mathematically seal second spot with two games to spare.
The match started at a fast pace, with Inter opening the scoring in the ninth minute: Fedele kept out Polli's header, but Marija Ana Milinkovic was on hand to convert on the follow-up. AC Milan equalised after 27 minutes: Dompig's shot was handled by Merlo in the box before the Rossonere No.99 stepped up to convert the resulting penalty.
Both teams had further chances before the break, but the opening 45 minutes came to an end with the score at 1-1.
AC Milan were putting up a solid fight, but there was the feeling Inter could strike at any moment. And that is exactly what happened as Elisa Polli restored the Nerazzurre's lead with a piece of individual brilliance.
It was a big setback for the Rossonere, who struggled to muster a response. Piovani's side, meanwhile, looked very much in control. Tessa Wullaert took centre stage in the latter stages, first converting Detruyer's cross (85') and then adding a fourth on the counter in stoppage time after again being set up by the Belgian.
Inter, who have mathematically secured second place, are now looking ahead to their final two Championship Round fixtures with real enthusiasm.
