AC Milan and Inter will contest their fourth derby clash of the season tonight, this time in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final.
Milan and Inter have faced each other 226 times in their history, with 73 wins for the Rossoneri, 85 for Inter and 68 draws. If Sergio Conceicao’s side emerge victorious tonight, it will be three wins in four and a four-game unbeaten run for the Rossoneri.
On February 1, it looked as though Milan were getting a third straight victory against their neighbours after Tijjani Reijnders’ opener, but Stefan De Vrij popped up deep in added time to earn Inzaghi’s side a point they probably deserved in truth.
Our pre-match preview has the latest team news and some insight on the opposition, while below are the key stats ahead of the game.
➤ The upcoming first leg will be the 243rd time the two sides have met in all competitions. The overall head-to-head record favours Inter with 91 Nerazzurri victories compared to 81 Rossoneri wins, with 70 draws completing the picture.
➤ In the Coppa Italia, the teams have met 27 times. In Italy’s domestic cup competition, AC Milan have come out on top ten times, while Inter have won on nine occasions. There have been eight draws.
➤ When it comes to semi-final encounters, there’s nothing to separate the sides: both have qualified for the final four times each. The last such tie went the way of the Nerazzurri, who got the better of AC Milan in the last four in 2021/22.
➤ The sides are meeting in a cup semi-final for the fifth time after previously doing so in the Coppa Italia in 1984/85 and 2021/22 and in the UEFA Champions League in 2002/03 and 2022/23.
➤ For the second time in the last three seasons, AC Milan and Inter will meet in three different competitions (Serie A, Supercoppa Italiana and Coppa Italia in 2024/25; Serie A, Supercoppa Italiana and UEFA Champions League in 2022/23).
➤ Milan are unbeaten in each of their last three matches against Inter in all competitions (W2, D1). The Rossoneri last achieved three wins against the Nerazzurri in a single season in 2004/05 (one in Serie A and two in the UEFA Champions League).
➤ Milan have both found the net and conceded in each of their last four Coppa Italia fixtures. Across these games, they’ve scored 14 goals, one more than in their ten previous matches.
➤ Tijjani Reijnders has directly contributed to two goals in three matches against Inter this season (an assist in the first league fixture and a goal in the return match). The Dutchman has found the net nine times at home in 2024/25, and he could become the first midfielder to reach double goalscoring figures at San Siro in a single campaign since Kaká (ten in 2008/09).
