Inter boss Simone Inzaghi cannot let the Supercoppa Italiana defeat to AC Milan go, as he once again referenced what he thinks was a foul during that game.
As a reminder, Milan produced a stunning comeback to beat their rivals Inter, triumphing 3-2 in Saudi Arabia. Lautaro Martinez and Mehdi Taremi scored either side of the half-time whistle for the Nerazzurri, and they looked to be heading for a fourth straight Super Cup win.
Milan never gave up and they spun the game on its head in the second half. Theo Hernandez scored with a free-kick to halve the deficit, Christian Pulisic equalised with a sweet strike and Tammy Abraham won it in the dying moments.
It was the club’s 50th major trophy, but Inzaghi made it clear he felt there was a foul in the build-up for the goal that made it 2-1. During the press conference after Inter’s 1-0 win over Venezia today, he was asked how important it was to respond with three points after losing the final on Monday.
“Inter’s draw would have been more newsworthy today even though the others also slowed down, but I’m happy because it means we’ve grown a lot. When we don’t win, news like arguments come out, none of that,” he said (via MilanNews).
“Take the 2-1 goal in that way [in the Supercoppa], with the much maligned Asllani who suffered a glaring foul from Morata. And so the final reopened. All anyone talked about was him, but he had suffered a clear foul. He did well today too.”
