Manchester City simply must sign a midfielder during the current transfer window. You only had to watch City’s midfield get run off their feet against PSG to see what Pep Guardiola’s squad currently lacks. A player like Ederson or perhaps Douglas Luiz could fix City’s midfield issue. But now a new report indicates that City is contemplating a late move for Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich. That idea isn’t the worst idea as he would add what City’s midfield currently lacks if they could sign the German international.
Pete O’Rourke has reported for Football Insider that Manchester City is considering making a late move for Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich. Furthermore, O’Rourke adds that Kimmich is now in the final six months of his contract with Bayern. It is also reported by O’Rourke that Kimmich is taking his time deciding what he wants to do with his future. This situation could play into Manchester City’s hands if they do decide to move for the German international.
Manchester City simply must sign a midfielder. They can’t afford not to. You only had to watch City’s ageing midfield struggle against PSG to see why they must sign a midfielder. It’s an issue that the City hierarchy cannot gloss over. You do get the sense that if they don’t sign a midfielder, it could put City’s hopes of securing a top-four finish in jeopardy.
Joshua Kimmich is a player who could contribute straight away for Manchester City. That’s exactly what Pep Guardiola’s side needs right now. The question is would Bayern sell Kimmich in January? That remains to be seen. But if they do and don’t want to lose Kimmich for free then City could pounce.
Signing Joshua Kimmich now would solve Manchester City’s biggest issue. It would also allow them to kick on this season and then look to sign another midfielder in the summer. A City move for Kimmich does tick the boxes that Manchester City require to fill for a midfielder. It just remains to be seen if that is a move that they do pursue.
