FC Barcelona maintained their winning run in La Liga with another crucial victory against Atletico Madrid in their last match on Sunday.
The Blaugranes had to work very hard to get this win, as they were trailing the Colchoneros by 2 goals by the 70th minute. However, they were able to overturn the game in the last 20 minutes and emerged victorious with a 2-4 scoreline.
Their comeback was kicked off by a goal from none other than Robert Lewandowski, who added another goal to his La Liga tally, which now stands at 22 goals.
In addition to the crucial three points, this win will also provide a significant morale boost to the Catalans ahead of the final stretch of the season. As SPORT has reported, this was also the opinion of the Polish striker, as he spoke to the media after having returned to his native country, where he will spend the current international break.
The Pole was clear that this win would have implications beyond just the three points:
“A match like this gives you a lot of morale, especially when you’re 2-0 down and then score four goals to win. This kind of victory boosts your self-confidence, especially with so many games left in the season. It gives you positive energy.”
However, getting a result against Atletico was not possible without some sacrifices, and the Barcelona striker also highlighted this in this media talk:
“I didn’t sleep well after the match. We arrived back in Barcelona at 3 a.m., and when I got home, I couldn’t sleep much. I had to fly early in the morning, so I didn’t get enough rest, and I plan to make up for it today.”
Lewandowski will be playing two World Cup qualifiers, against Lithuania and Malta, in this break. Hopefully, he will be able to return to his club in good shape as his presence in Hansi Flick’s team is crucial for the remaining part of the season.
