Manchester City captain Kyle Walker has revealed that a message from Prince William is now being shared around the Etihad Stadium dressing room this season.

The Premier League champions are on the hunt for yet another English top-flight crown this season, having already broke the record for the most titles won in the division in succession with four last campaign.

Pep Guardiola’s never-ending hunger for improvement and more success from his Manchester City players is likely to steer them to further achievements this season, but there is seemingly an awareness from within the group that a fast start is not decisive.

That is the word being conveyed by club captain Kyle Walker, who has been recently keen to share a message from the Royal Family that will be forwarded on to his Manchester City teammates in the dressing room this season.

Speaking during the latest edition of the ‘You’ll Never Beat Kyle Walker’ podcast on BBC Sounds, the Manchester City full-back looked back a moment when royalty greeted the England squad at the European Championships.

“He (Prince William) said, ‘Don’t show your true self yet, wait until the end of the tournament, that is where you show your true self, where your real self comes out as a team’,” speaking during an address to Gareth Southgate’s squad in Germany as revealed by the City captain.

Walker continued, “I think he was definitely right and I think it is something I will remember and take into Man City. You don’t have to start well, it is about how you finish.”

Regardless, City have certainly started fast this season, recording a dominant and impressive 0-2 away victory to Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, showcasing the gulf between the two playing squads developed over the last nine seasons.

Erling Haaland’s opening goal was revenge on Marc Cucurella following his summer antics, whilst Mateo Kovacic reminded the Stamford Bridge of what they could have had, as he shunted past Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez to slam in a second in the closing moments.

It remains to be seen when Kyle Walker will be deemed match sharp and ready for a return to Manchester City action this season, remaining unused on the substitutes bench against Chelsea on the weekend.
