Markus Krösche, Dino Toppmöller and Ansgar Knauff praise the performance and the passion in the 3-1 win at Besiktas.
Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “We did well. After the quickfire double, we noticed there wasn’t as much energy in the stadium. We got a bit too passive just before half-time but we had a very good goalkeeper. The penalty was extremely difficult to save because it was well hit.”
Head coach Dino Toppmöller: “With these opponents and this crowd, that was the toughest assignment of the season so far. We showed a very mature performance. It was a giant step forward for us and we had a very good goalkeeper. We allowed one or two shots on goal too many but also showed good resilience. We’ll need that again on Sunday. Mario Götze’s head was throbbing but it’s all fine now.”
Ansgar Knauff: “We’re very happy with the three points. We did well from the start, we were steady. We capitalised on our moments in attack and took a 2-0 lead. Then we came out well in the second half and withstood a spell of pressure later on. The goal we conceded can happen but Kaua played a big part in keeping a clean sheet up to that point. With my goal, I was running at good speed and then the shot doesn’t have to be that hard.”
