After losses and player injuries, Southampton now feels close to losing some star players post-relegation. And it's their best summer signing, Aaron Ramsdale, who is in talks now.
You might agree that in February itself, Southampton's 2024/25 campaign looks finished. Sitting bottom table, it's too late to spark a fight for relegation in the Premier League.
Ok, so what's next? A Championship campaign.
Now, whatever Southampton's form is like, the second division feels like an easy run for them.
But would you agree if I say, the Saints' future isn't very bright for this challenge as well? This is as they feel close to losing their core setup next season.
You would agree, that Tyler Dibling, Harwood-Bellis, and Aaron Ramsdale have been Southampton's best players this season. Now, while talks for Dibling's exit and Harwood-Bellis' departure already existed, the Saints keeper has joined the duo as well.
As per The Sun, Bournemouth is tracking Ramsdale's situation closely as the keeper might look to leave the Saints post-relegation.
Well, biases aside, Ramsdale's move could be a nearly perfect one. For the Cherries, this would be their ex-hero's return to the Vitality. Additionally, Bournemouth's interest in him post a brilliant recent show against them makes sense to be loanee Arrizabalaga's successor.
But while it's a win-win move for Bournemouth, Ramsdale would need to ditch Southampton to join the Cherries. And that's where it gets complicated.
Just in around six months at St. Mary's, Ramsdale has proven his commitment multiple times. Be it through performances, or off-the-field gestures, he has been a Southampton man on and off the field.
Safe to say, all this indicates against Ramsdale crossing the South Coast derby. However, still, a hint of skepticism endures.
You would remember not long ago ex-Saints star Charly Alcaraz returned to the Top Flight joining their relegation rivals Everton. After all, what matters for an elite player is to play at the highest division regularly.
