Speaking to talkSPORT this week, former Gunner Aaron Ramsdale discussed his summer move from north London to Southampton.
At one point, it had appeared that Ramsdale was set for a long career with Arsenal, particularly after he signed a new contract in 2023. But the club then signed David Raya, dropped Ramsdale to the bench, and ultimately sold him to Southampton.
Reflecting on that unexpected year of change, Ramsdale says he holds no bitterness about how things played out.
“No, I’ve been around football long enough that the manager’s decision is the manager’s decision,” Ramsdale said.

“I tried my best to change his mind and force my way back in. His mind was set and at the same time David had a great season.
“You can have all the upset or qualms about being taken out but when someone else is delivering, you’ve just got to take it on the chin.
“It was tough but I’ve found a new home and I’m looking forward to playing again. You move on, there’s no bad blood and you’ve got to restart your career again.”

Ramsdale went on to say that he and Arteta have a lot to be grateful to each other for, and he’s just looking forward to Southampton’s game against Arsenal now.
“What he did for me in my time at Arsenal, I can only thank him for and he thanked me for my contribution as well,” Ramsdale insisted.
“We play [Arsenal] in a few weeks’ time which will be a nice return.”
Arsenal face Southampton on Saturday, October 5th at the Emirates Stadium, so Ramsdale will get his first opportunity to return for a game in north London next month.
