Maghnes Akliouche (22) was hot property over the summer. He enjoyed a breakthrough with AS Monaco last season, making the step up from the academy to solidify his place in the Principality club’s plans.

The France youth international netted eight goals and registered four assists in 31 appearances in all competitions, leading Les Monégasques back into the UEFA Champions League after a lengthy absence. Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain were among the clubs reportedly interested in the France youth international, who competed for Les Bleus in the Olympic Games in Paris over the summer, however, he opted to remain with the Principality club.

“It is his decision and ours that the priority is to stay. We are in good conversations with him and his agent about a contract extension,” said Monaco CEO Scuro, back in July. That extension has since been confirmed and Akliouche’s current deal now runs until 2028.

The Monaco academy product has had another strong start to the season, netting twice and registering four assists in his opening 14 games. Despite the recent contract renewal, Adi Hutter has told RMC Sport that he believes the big clubs will return for Akliouche come the summer.

“The way that he has progressed is really fantastic. He can make a big difference in his play,” began the Monaco manager. “He is a big talent and I can imagine that some top clubs will be interested in him next season. But this is our way, this is the way we want to go,” he added.
