The Indian football team beat Cambodia 2-0 as Sunil Chhetri scored a brace in the opening game of their Group D match of the AFC Asian Cup 2023 qualifiers' final round at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Wednesday.
In what was his 127th match for India, Chhetri scored the 82nd goal of his international career with two goals in the game.
Chhetri's 82 goals are now two short of equalizing Hungarian football legend and one of the greats of the beautiful game - Ferenc Puskás, who scored 84 international goals in his career.
The Blue Tigers lead the points table on goal difference with Hong Kong beating Afghanistan 2-1 in the earlier game.
One thing is for sure, India need to work harder than they did today if they are to outsmart Hong Kong and Afghanistan.
