The agent of Cerro Porteño wonderkid Diego Leon has confirmed that the defender is set to undergo his medical at Manchester United very soon.
United’s interest in Leon was first revealed in December 2024, with the club moving speedily to secure his services ahead of other interested parties in Europe.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano then relayed that United had agreed a fee with Cerro Porteño for Leon’s switch to Old Trafford.
Romano also indicated that all the paperwork had been signed and completed. Leon will officially join the Red Devils in the summer as he only turns 18 in April.
Now, it has emerged that Leon is scheduled to fly to England for his United medical.
This is according to journalist Bruno Pont who wrote on X, “Speaking to Renato Bittar, he confirmed that in the next few days he and Diego León will travel to Manchester, where the player will undergo medical tests.”
Once his arrival is announced by the club, Leon will make history, becoming the first Paraguayan to line up for the 20-time English champions.
The 17-year-old made his competitive debut in the Paraguayan top-flight for Cerro Porteño in August. He quickly established himself as a regular first-team player.
The left-back boasts an incredible physique for his age and is also a technical wizard. He’s very dangerous in forward areas and is widely regarded as one of the best prospects currently coming out of South America.
He is also lighting-quick and very capable in duels and challenges.
Leon’s recruitment aligns with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS’ transfer strategy of bringing in young, talented and hungry youngsters who can be nurtured to potentially become world-class superstars.
Meanwhile, United are back in action on Sunday when they face bitter rivals Liverpool at Anfield.
