AIMC, Italian Milan Club Association, have published a fiery statement regarding the ticket prices on their website. Indeed, as it has now become clear, the loyal fans ended up paying more than tourists for the Champions League games.
The management has come under heavy criticism for the ticket pricing this season, not just in the Champions League but also in Serie A. The game against Liverpool is a very good example as the prices were way too high, resulting in about 15k unsold tickets (!).
On their website, AIMC have published a fiery statement regarding the situation and above all due to one thing, namely the Champions League ‘mini-packs’. Indeed, those who paid for what essentially is a UCL group stage season ticket had to pay more, compared to buying tickets individually for each game.
“WE ARE FANS, NOT CUSTOMERS!
Season ticket holders are treated like tourists and occasional fans, or worse. This is the bitter feeling we have been carrying with us for months and today we have had further proof, with the publishing of the full UCL price list.
“Let’s take 2nd blue and 2nd green as an example, sectors where the Milan Clubs (AIMC) have the highest number of season tickets:
“Single-match cost for Serie A season ticket holders:
“With all due respect to the organised fans (and a few other loyalists) who signed up for the mini-packs even before the draw, they had to pay a whopping €159 in total (€40 per match!!!). And the same comparison can be made with all the other sectors of the stadium, just compare the price lists of all the matches.
“It is now clear that the commercial policy of this company does not take into account the fans who have coloured San Siro for years, it is enough that the stadium is filled with puppets and tourists who overpay for tickets in the big matches (against Juve: 2nd blue/green at €124, 3rd red at €114 and 1st blue/green at €154!)
“This means families can only go to the stadium for the ‘useless’ matches by giving away tickets for €2 just to fill the stadium. Not to mention the sponsors and friends of friends who are reserved numerous tickets in the big matches, especially in European away matches, to the detriment of the hard core of our fans who follow Milan always and in any case regardless of the opponents and the distances.
“And the proof that the strategy drawn up by the commercial area of this company is clearly wrong, despite the numerous suggestions received over time, can be found in the numbers of this start of the season:
“On the other hand, there is none so deaf as he who will not hear, if you want a stadium without a soul, dull, empty and devoid of colour you are on the right path, because the customer goes to the stadium only if the show offered is beautiful and pleasant while the true fan will always go there regardless of the result, and we have shown you more than once: in these years faced with mediocre results we have been the only ones always present!
“The conclusions are yours…”
Perhaps the club expected to charge more for the tickets, but had to back down after the Liverpool fiasco. Either way, it’s a disgrace that the loyal fans are been fleeced by the club, especially since this has been a problem for a few seasons now.
