Ajax agree contract terms with Gaston Avila as alternative to Hiroki Ito | OneFootball

According to Het Nieuwsblad, Ajax have reached a verbal agreement with Gaston Avila on a contract that would keep him in Amsterdam until 2028. The club have not yet agreed a transfer fee with Antwerp for the former Boca Juniors defender. It appears that, according to HNB, the move depends on whether or not Hiroki Ito will join Ajax from VFB Stuttgart. With perhaps frustration over the slowness of the move, Ajax have turned their attention to Avila.

HNB understands that Avilla is happy at Antwerp, but would be very much open to the move to Ajax. The defender only joined the side last summer from Boca Juniors. He was by no means a regular at the start of the season, but has since become the sides first choice left-back. The 21-year-old made 22 appearances for Antwerp last season, including starting five of the six playoff games as they won their first title since 1957.
