If you’re going to beat Ajax, you have to take your chances when they come.

Fortuna Sittard could be about to learn that lesson that hard way after they missed a penalty in Sunday’s clash between the two sides.

Ajax lined up with new signing Georges Mikautadze in attack, while Josip Šutalo captained the club for the first time.

Maurice Steijn’s side made a bad start at Offermans Joosten Stadion, however, and after just 10 minutes they faced a penalty when Devyne Rensch clumsily brought down Tijjani Noslin in the box.

But Rensch was soon able to breathe a sigh of relief when Noslin stepped up to take the penalty and blasted it five metres over the crossbar.

A frustrating miss, and one that could well come back to haunt Fortuna.
