Ajax have confirmed the departure of defender Jakov Medić on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old centre-back has opted to return to German, this time in the top flight, after signing on loan for Bochum with an option to buy.

“The Bundesliga is one of the top leagues in Europe and has been my goal since I first dared to move to Germany,” said Medić on the move.

“VfL is a down-to-earth club where hard work on the pitch is celebrated by the fans. So I think I fit in well here.”

The move arrives after a series of loan spells away from Amsterdam. Medić previously played for FC St. Pauli and SV Wehen Wiesbaden in the 2 Bundesliga. At Ajax, he made nine appearances across all competitions and scored one goal.

“Jakov has a dynamic and vertical opening play while also being highly resistant to pressure,” says Marc Lettau, Bochum sporting director.

“He is an excellent tackler both on the ground and in the air, plays clean and precise passes and reaches top speed.”

Bochum kick off their Bundesliga opener against RB Leipzig on Saturday.
