Ajax are set to send Mohamed Ihattaren back to Juventus at the end of his loan spell in December.

Ihattaren joined Ajax from the Italian giants in January on a one-year loan, with the Dutch club being given the option to buy him for €2m at the end of it.

It was hoped that he’d be able to get his career back on track in Amsterdam after personal issues prevented him from making a single senior league appearance in Italy, neither at Juventus nor at Sampdoria when he was sent there on loan.

However, while there were promising signs initially with him impressing for Jong Ajax last season and in pre-season for the senior side, things have gone wrong since.

He hasn’t been in the squad for Ajax or Jong Ajax all season due to a reported run-in with an alleged criminal group in Amsterdam, and that has made the club reluctant to keep him beyond the end of his loan spell.

Now, Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf believes that the decision has been made to send the Dutchman back to Juventus.

“I think Ajax just said goodbye to him and that they will say to Juventus in December that the option to buy is not activated,” he said.

“Then the end would be for Ihattaren and that would surprise me very much. That would mean that Ajax gave up at a very early stage.”
