Ajax star reveals 'crazy' Schreuder fallout | OneFootball

Owen Wijndal has revealed his “crazy” fallout with former Ajax head coach Alfred Schreuder.

The reigning Eredivisie champions sacked Schreuder in January, just eight months into his tenure, after a poor run of results which left them seven points adrift of leaders Feyenoord.

Wijndal found himself publicly singled out by Erik ten Hag’s former assistant during that spell and the left-back has now admitted the pair did not see eye to eye.

“Did I think that was crazy? Yes,” Wijndal told AjaxLife magazine. “During the training camp in Marbella, the feeling was still good. I also spoke to the coach after NEC away and indicated that I did not agree with him.

“I also didn’t think it was strong that he said that in the media, but hadn’t confronted me about it before.

“Of course a coach may think that I don’t train well. I just like honesty. Then it’s up to me to respond to that in the right way.

“After a few training sessions I heard that Schreuder said that the penny had dropped.

“In his eyes, I apparently did different things than before. I thought I was still training well and hard.”

Wijndal made just four Eredivisie starts under Schreuder but has been picked to start in each of the five league games overseen by interim boss John Heitinga.
