Seldom-used Aston Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia is set to leave the club to join Qatari side Al-Gharafa, pending a medical.
Kodjia, whose contract was set to expire in June, was instrumental to Villa’s successful promotion back to the Premier League, scoring 31 goals in 109 matches.
Al-Gharafa made a statement on Twitter which confirmed the pending move: “Ivorian International Jonathan Kodjia arrives in Doha tomorrow, God willing, to perform a medical examination, in preparation for signing a club.”
Kodjia arrived from Bristol City for a near-Championship record fee of £11m and is currently earns one of Villa’s highest wages.
Aston Villa will seemingly waste no time replacing him, as The Guardian reported on Thursday that they are closing in on £8.5m Genk striker Mbwana Samatta.
