Alajuelense, Comunicaciones meet for first place in Group B | OneFootball

MIAMI – The 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup continues Tuesday, as the 20 best clubs compete to be crowned champions in early December.

The fifth and final match week of the group stage features the top spot in Group B at stake between LD Alajuelense and Comunicaciones FC. CD Marathón and Alianza FC meet in the other match of the group as the two seek to exit the 2024 edition with a second victory.

CD Marathón vs. Alianza FC

CD Marathón hosts Alianza FC in Group B at the Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The sides will face each other for the first time in the tournament and third overall, with each claiming one win each in their previous encounters.

Marathón will close out its debut campaign with a second victor after defeating LA Firpo 1-nil to earn the team’s historic first win in the CCAC. Damin Ramírez scored the match-winning goal for the Honduran side in the 90’+6 from a long-range free kick.

Alianza will look to end its participation on a positive note after recording a win and two losses in the team’s first three fixtures. Ányelo Rodríguez and Emerson Mauricio lead the team with two goals each in the current campaign.

Liga Deportiva Alajuelense vs. Comunicaciones FC

LD Alajuelense and Comunicaciones FC meet at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa Rica. First and second respectively, Comunicaciones could overtake Alajuelense with a win while the home side only needs a draw to maintain the top spot.

Alajuelense enters this bout on a three-match winning streak. The inaugural champions remain unbeaten overall in the tournament, with 10 wins and three draws. Diego Campos leads the Top Scorer race with five goals and will aim to continue adding to his tally.

Comunicaciones is also undefeated in the 2024 edition, registering two wins and a draw. The Guatemalan side will aim to extend its positive record in the Central American Cup after going unbeaten in its last five matches.

This matchup will be the first between the sides in the Central American Cup and 17th overall in Concacaf club tournaments. Alajuelense leads the series with 11 wins to three for Comunicaciones, with two draws.
