Inter Milan midfielder Kristjan Asllani is ready for his big chance against Hellas Verona this weekend in Serie A.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They anticipate that the Albanian will start with Hakan Calhanoglu out.l
Asllani has not always found playing time easy to come by at Inter.
The Albanian international joined the Nerazzurri in the summer of 2022. He initially arrived to be the main backup to Marcelo Brozovic in the squad.
But that’s not exactly how things worked out.
Instead, Hakan Calhanoglu moved deeper into midfield and effectively replaced Brozovic.
Therefore, Asllani has instead been the backup for Calhanoglu at the base of midfield.
And considering how important the Turkish international is to Inter’s style of play, Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi has often been reluctant to do without him.
As such, Asllani has not started all that many matches in the last couple seasons.
Prior to this international break, Calhanoglu had missed out on several matches due to a thigh injury.
Therefore, Asllani should have been the player to take over from the former AC Milan man.
However, Asllani was himself dealing with some injury problems. The 22-year-old had picked up a knock to his knee in training.
Therefore, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi decided not to risk Asllani. He opted for other solutions such as playing Nicolo Barella or Piotr Zielinski in holding midfield.
Meanwhile, Calhanoglu looks to have picked up another muscle problem during the current international break.
Therefore, the 30-year-old is likely to miss at least one more match for Inter. The Nerazzurri take on Hellas Verona on Saturday evening in their return to Serie A action.
And this time, Asllani will be ready.
The Inter midfielder has been fully fit and put in some in-form displays for Albania during the break.
Therefore, with Calhanoglu likely absent, Asllani will be ready to fill in this weekend.
And Inter coach Inzaghi will be ready to give the nod to the former Empoli midfielder in the starting eleven.
Therefore, this will constitute a big chance for Asllani to prove he can play a role at Inter.
