Birmingham City midfielder Alex Pritchard has urged the club's supporters to stick with the team through a very tricky period, sending this message as he spoke to Blues' media team.

The Midlands side started the campaign very well under John Eustace and even climbed into the top six under his guidance.

This came after a very positive summer at St Andrew's, with Tom Wagner coming in as the club's new owner to replace BSHL.

Unfortunately, the new board made the dreadful decision to replace Eustace with Wayne Rooney back in October, and it's a decision that could end up costing the club dearly.

With the team failing to adapt to Rooney's style, the former England international was sacked in January, leaving Tony Mowbray to clean up the mess that his predecessor has made.

But during the early stages of his time in charge, Mowbray was forced to temporarily step down and leave his assistant Mark Venus in charge.

Unfortunately, Venus has been unable to steer Blues away from danger and they now hover dangerously above the drop zone.

Sitting just one point above the drop zone, they have dropped like a stone since Eustace's departure and even though they have a game in hand, there's every chance they could be relegated at the end of this term.

That would be nothing short of a disaster for Wagner during his first season at the helm, especially when considering the calibre of players that have arrived in recent windows to strengthen the squad.

Tahith Chong may have left for Luton Town, but they brought in more than enough top-quality additions to secure a comfortable finish this term.

Pritchard to Birmingham City supporters: "Stick with us"

Difficult weeks lay ahead for the Midlands club in their quest to remain in the Championship - and Pritchard has sent a message to supporters ahead of tomorrow's clash against Middlesbrough.

"It is tough to take but we need to stay upbeat," he said.

"The fans have been excellent since I have been here. You see they've come in their numbers today and it must be really, really difficult for them.

"I understand it but stick with us, we need to stick together in there and we will do. Tuesday night is a massive game. We go to that and will give it all for our fans."

It's time for Birmingham City's key players to step up to the plate

Jay Stansfield has been exceptional this season - but his contributions between now and the end of the campaign will be more vital than his ones earlier this term.

Alex Pritchard can also be a game-changer with his deliveries and quality on the ball, so he's another player that can make a difference.

Pritchard clearly knows and appreciates the vulnerable situation that Blues are in at the moment, which could help.

Siriki Dembele is another player who can make a difference - but Jordan James could be their most important player considering how much he has contributed this term.
