As reported by Ruhr Nachrichten BVB, Julian Brandt is expected to leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the 2024/2025 campaign. Following his superb performance a year prior, which helped the Black-and-Yellows to reach a Champions League Final, Brandt massively underperformed this season.
Precisely when the German international decided to pick up the number 10 jersey and step up as one of the club's captains, Brandt did not match that status on the pitch, unfortunately. He went from 26 goal contributions in 2023/2024 to 16 the following year, alongside many underwhelming performances.
According to Ruhr Nachrichten BVB, the club signaled to the player's entourage weeks ago that it would be better for both sides to part ways in the summer. With players like Rayan Cherki on the radar, Julian Brandt could get moved as sporting director Sebastian Kehl would like to make a third attempt to sign the young French talent.
Whether the door is still open for Julian Brandt to stay depends at least on how he performs in the remaining games. However, it is unlikely that he will stay at Signal Iduna Park, even considering his very good performance against Hoffenheim on the weekend.
Personally, I believe Julian Brandt is a highly underrated player, and he still has the potential to contribute, as he showcased last Saturday. Despite that, his problem was always consistency, and with his contract expiring in summer 2026, it could be Dortmund's last chance to capitalize on Brandt before allowing him to leave on a free transfer. A tough decision for Sebastian Kehl to make, as Reyna seems to be also bound to depart, and an overhaul in the number 10 slot seems to be necessary.
