It was another match to forget for Almere City fans as they saw their side lose their sixth game of the season. Newly promoted Willem II were the victors in Friday nights Eredivisie clash, winning 1-0 in Almere. For the club from just outside of Amsterdam have not won once in the Eredivisie this season and remain second bottom of the table. Should RKC Waalwijk finally win a game themselves this weekend, the side could find themselves bottom of the table.
With just under 15 minutes to go, it looked like the side were destined to at least take a point away from their clash with Willem II. However, half time substitute Amar Fatah was offered far too much room and his vicious strike gave goalkeeper Nordin Bakker absolutely no chance. This was the 20-year-old from Sweden’s first goal for the club since joining on loan from Troyes in the summer.
Almere certainly had their chances, but it is clear why they have only scored twice this season. Thomas Didillon in the Willem II goal made seven saves to deny the side. Almere managed to fire off 22 shots, but failing to score left them open to the sucker punch from the newly promoted side. They face a trip to Sparta Rotterdam next weekend.
