A member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has this week provided his response to the news of former teammate João Cancelo’s move to Saudi Arabia.
Defender Cancelo this past Tuesday, of course, became the latest high-profile player to take his talents to the Middle East.
After Al Hilal agreed to meet the asking price laid out by Manchester City for the Portuguese, a deal was quickly struck between the parties.
Cancelo, as a result, will spend the coming seasons plying his trade alongside the likes of Neymar and Kalidou Koulibaly in Riyadh.
Al Hilal aside, the other club most heavily linked with a move for the 30-year-old over the course of the summer window were the aforementioned Barcelona.
Cancelo spent last season on loan in Catalunya’s capital, with new Blaugrana boss Hansi Flick understood to have been keen on bringing the former Juventus and Inter Milan man back.
In the end, however, the ongoing financial issues at the Camp Nou prevented as much.
And Cancelo, it would appear, will be missed in the Barca squad.
Taking to his official Instagram account on the back of his ex-teammate’s move to Saudi being confirmed, Gavi unveiled a photo of he and Cancelo, accompanied by the caption:
‘Aways in my team brother’
