América have formally announced the permanent signing of Federico Viñas on a four-year deal.
The 21-year-old attacker was brought to the Azteca on loan from Uruguayan side Juventud last August.
He hit the ground running with Las Águilas, scoring eight goals in his 18 appearances to date for the club.
América had promised to offer the Uruguay U23 international a long-term contract, but that process was delayed when the 2020 Clausura was suspended and then eventually cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Viñas took to Twitter to express his delight that his future with the Azulcrema has finally been secured.
“It is a pride and a pleasure to announce my renovation with this great institution that from the beginning made me feel at home,” he posted.
“Thank you to everyone who made this possible. Thank you Hobby for all the love received. We will fly high!!”
The Mexican side also announced the deal with an official statement on Twitter.
Club América made valid the purchase option of Federico Viñas until 2024. 🦅🇲🇽🇺🇾⚽ Official Statement:–
While no details of the deal were released, it had been widely reported that both clubs had agreed on a transfer fee of $1.9m when the loan went through last year.
