Federico Viñas is blessed with many footballing gifts, and his sense of timing is also impeccable.
Reports surfaced in the last couple of days that the attacker was attracting interest from a Spanish club.
The 21-year-old is on loan at América from Uruguayan Primera División side Juventud until after the Clausura.
Viñas had been away in Colombia representing Uruguay U23s in pre-Olympic qualifying, and returned to the Azulcrema with a bang by netting both goals in their 2-0 win over Atlas on Saturday.
His match-winning exploits, coupled with the outside interest, would appear to have lit a fire under the América hierarchy to get a permanent deal sorted.
According to Mexican journalist Jonatan Peña, Las Águilas are going to offer Viñas a five-year contract.
The win over Atlas moved Miguel Herrera’s men up to second in the table, just two points behind leaders Pumas UNAM.
