There is a possibility that either Nathan Ake or John Stones could leave Manchester City this summer. Both players are currently out with injury but there are question marks that surround their durability. If one of Ake or Stones did depart the club Manchester City would have to replace them. They couldn’t carry five centre-backs with two of those being young into next season.

On that front Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite is reportedly considering his future at Everton. If he becomes available next summer, he’s a player Manchester City should pursue, as he’d add what Pep Guardiola’s squad would need if Ake or Stones did depart the club.

SkySports has reported via their official X account that Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite is expected to consider his future with the club. This is due to the fact that Branthwaite was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s recent England squad. It is also included in the SkySports report that Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester United have tracked the England international this season.

Manchester City should move for Jarrad Branthwaite as he ticks every box required of a City signing.

Jarrad Branthwaite, as a player, does tick every box required of a potential Manchester City signing. He is only 22 years of age and has his best football ahead of him. Branthwaite is also Premier League proven and has already established himself as a quality centre-back. He is good in possession and is strong in a challenge and has every tool in his kitbag to develop into a quality centre-back. If he is available Manchester City should do everything they can to sign him. Opportunities to sign a player like Branthwaite don’t come around often. With Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis already signed adding Branthwaite to that mix could set up City’s defensive stocks for years to come.

But there is another prospect to consider. Jarrad Branthwaite is homegrown. As are John Stones and Nathan Ake. If one of them depart Manchester City would need to add another homegrown player. Jarrad Branthwaite would tick that box. You did that factor to his overall quality as a player and Branthwaite looms as a player that Manchester City simply must sign if he becomes available.
