Real Madrid secured their second trophy of the 2024/25 season today as they won the FIFA Intercontinental Cup with a 3-0 win over CF Pachuca at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar.
A first-half strike from Kylian Mbappe, followed by goals from Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Jr. in the second period led the reigning champions of Spain and Europe to a rather comfortable victory on the night.
It is the ninth time that Real Madrid have won the Intercontinental Cup (f.k.a Club World Cup), continuing their successful history in the competition.
The win also means that Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has now become the most successful coach in the history of the club – winning 15 trophies across his two stints at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Following the UEFA Super Cup triumph back in August, the legendary Italian manager had gone level with Miguel Munoz on 14 trophies.
But with tonight’s Intercontinental Cup success, Ancelotti now stands at the top all by himself with 15 trophies during his time at Real Madrid.
The veteran manager has won three UEFA Champions League trophies, two La Liga titles, two Spanish Super Cups, two Copa del Rey trophies, three UEFA Super Cups, two FIFA Club World Cups, and now the Intercontinental Cup.
Zinedine Zidane comes in third with 11 titles.
