Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti said that it is a ‘source of great pride to receive recognition from my colleagues’ after receiving a lifetime achievement award as part of the Panchina d’Oro ceremony at Coverciano on Monday.
Carlo Ancelotti was one of multiple Italian coaches in attendance at Coverciano on Monday for the Panchina d’Oro, which is given out every year to the best coach in Italy and is voted for by coaches across the Italian pyramid rather than by journalists or fans.
Inter’s Simone Inzaghi received the 2023-24 trophy on Monday in recognition of his title success with Inter last season. Gian Piero Gasperini, who won the Europa League with Atalanta came in second, with Vincenzo Italiano in third.
Ancelotti was not eligible for the main award as he does not currently coach in Italy, but was in attendance at Coverciano on Monday as he was given a special award for his lifetime achievement. This is a particularly special honour, as there have only been five previous recipients, the last being Luis Vicino in 2016.
“It’s a real honour and a source of great pride to receive recognition from my colleagues. It was a wonderful day in Florence. Thank you all,” Ancelotti wrote in a social media message on Monday evening.
Antonio Conte, Simone and Pippo Inzaghi, Gian Piero Gasperini, Cladio Ranieri, Cesc Fabregas, Fabio Cannavaro and Raffaele Palladino were among the coaches in attendance to watch the Real Madrid boss receive his award.
