Having completed the La Liga and UEFA Champions League double last season, Real Madrid began the 2024/25 campaign aiming for a seven-title haul.
However, as we enter the final phase of the season, Los Blancos have managed to win only two out of five competitions played while La Liga and the FIFA Club World Cup still remain.
Carlo Ancelotti, the most decorated manager in the history of Real Madrid with 15 trophies, is now staring at an exit, after having endured a season that has failed to meet the lofty expectations at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The loss to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final last night at Estadio de La Cartuja was Real Madrid’s 13th defeat of the season – marking Ancelotti’s worst record across his six campaigns at the Spanish calpital club.
Los Blancos have played 57 matches across all competitions this season, losing 13 of them, in the process, surpassing Ancelotti’s previous worst total of 12 losses from 61 matches in the 2022-23 season.

During that campaign, Real Madrid won the Copa del Rey, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Club World Cup, just as they have claimed some silverware this season in the form of the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
However, with a minimum of eight games still to play – five in La Liga and at least three in the Club World Cup – it could get even worse for the Italian and the Merengues provided he remains in charge.
Not only have Real Madrid endured the worst season under Ancelotti in terms of losses, but they also have already let in 69 goals – seven more than in the Italian’s previous worst defensive season, which was also in 2022-23 when they conceded 62 goals.
As reported earlier, Ancelotti appears all set to depart Real Madrid with Brazil pushing to appoint him as their new national team coach. In fact, the Italian could bid goodbye to the Merengues as early as next week.
In that scenario, Real Madrid are likely to turn to Santiago Solari to step in as the interim manager to see through the season before making a permanent appointment – likely to be Xabi Alonso.
