HLN are reporting that Mark van Bommel has turned down the opportunity to return to management in Belgium with Anderlecht. The man who won the double for Antwerp just a season ago has declined the offer to take over at the Brussels side. David Hubert will remain in charge for the Classico this weekend against Standard Liege. Another man that the side have spoken to is former Watford head coach Vladimir Ivic. While this is by no means a pending appointment, the club are clearly considering Ivic as one of the options going forward to replace Brian Riemer. However, there are indications that the club hope David Hubert will have done enough to take over on a full time basis.
Ivic is currently available having left Russian side Krasnodar back in the summer. The Serbian head coach has spent time in Greece with PAOK, two spells in Israel with Maccabi Tel Aviv and a very short stint with Watford. He managed the hornets for just four months in 2020. He won nine of his 20 Championship games, but given Watford’s track record of sacking managers at regular intervals, this was not enough for the clubs hierarchy.
During his time in Israel he won two league titles and the Super Cup. In Greece he managed to win the domestic cup.
