As announced on Twitter in the early hours of this morning, veteran striker André-Pierre Gignac has extended his contract in Mexico with Tigres UANL. He will stay at the club until 2025, which will be ten years since he first joined from Olympique Marseille in 2015.

The 37-year-old has enjoyed a successful time in Monterrey since his arrival in North America. He has been the Mexican league’s top goalscorer on three occasions, including during the 2021/22 season last year. His one-year contract extension is testament to his continuing importance at the club. Across 317 appearances in all competitions for Los Tigres, the Frenchman has accrued 181 goals and 45 assists.

Previously, he played in Ligue 1 at FC Lorient, FC Toulouse, and Marseille. During his time in the French top flight, he made 291 appearances, scoring 103 goals and providing 28 assists. At national team level, he appeared in each of France’s three games in the 2010 World Cup as they were knocked out in the group stage. He found more success six years later as he appeared in all but one of France’s matches at Euro 2016, when they reached – and ultimately lost – the final.
