As well as securing a place in the repechaje for Chivas, Ángel Zaldívar’s late goal against Mazatlán on Friday marked a personal milestone for the attacker.
The 27-year-old came off the bench to strike from outside the area with just three minutes remaining to turn what was a worrying situation in the Flock’s favour.
It was his 27th goal in short tournaments, taking him one ahead of Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández in the club’s list of top scorers in this format.
However the Guadalajara native has little chance of toppling leader Omar Bravo, who racked up 132 goals in his three stints with Los Rojiblancos.
Interim manager Marcelo Michel Leaño will be hoping Zaldívar can bring his scoring boots in the post-season.
Chivas must wait for other teams to finish their regular Apertura schedule this weekend to see who they will face next.
