Santi Aouna is reporting that SCO Angers attacker Sofiane Boufal (29) is set to sign for Qatari side Al-Rayyan. The Moroccan international will sign a three-and-a-half-year deal with the club.
Boufal was one of the standout players of the recent Qatar World Cup. Alongside club and international teammate Azzedine Ounahi (22), he led the Atlas Lions to the semi-finals of the competition, becoming the first African side in history to pull off the feat.
However, upon the pair’s return to Angers, currently bottom of Ligue 1, president Saïd Chabane said that the club would find it difficult to retain the pair. And so it has proved. Ounahi was the first to depart, joining Ligue 1 rivals Olympique de Marseille. Former Southampton player Boufal now looks set to follow his international teammate to the Angers exit.
According to Aouna, Boufal has signed for Al-Rayyan, and only the officialisation of the deal remains.
