Viktor Gyokeres continues to impress since leaving Coventry City, with Matty Godden the latest to react.

Matty Godden has reacted to ex-Coventry City teammate Viktor Gyökeres scoring a hat-trick in the Champions League against Manchester City.

The Sky Blues are having to watch on as their former fan favourite continues to go from strength to strength with his impressive form for the Portuguese outfit Sporting CP.

A figure of just over £1 million was spent on Gyökeres, and he repaid Coventry in spades with 43 goals and 17 assists in 116 matches in all competitions after an initial loan from Brighton. He would go on to become one of the most feared strikers in the second tier over the next few years.

He developed and flourished under the guidance of Mark Robins, and he played a key role in the team that reached the play-off final. However, after missing out on promotion, Coventry accepted a club-record bid from Sporting for their star striker, with reports from Coventry Live indicating it was in the region of £17.5 million.

Gyökeres' head coach, Ruben Amorim, has been making headlines this week, swapping Portugal for Manchester United later in November. However, their star striker has also done the same this season, and his crowning moment for Sporting perhaps came last night with a hat-trick against Pep Guardiola's Man City.

Gyökeres scored 43 goals for Coventry in 116 appearances, with his final season at the club seeing him score 21 goals and register 12 assists to help the Sky Blues all the way to the play-off final.

It ended in defeat, but he will be fondly remembered by those of a Coventry persuasion for a generation, with fans and former teammates alike enjoying his exploits in Portugal. That includes one of his former striking partners in Matty Godden.

The 26-year-old notched in the 38th minute to open the scoring for the home side, but with penalties in the 49th and 80th minutes to secure a monumental victory for Amorim’s side in the Champions League group stage.

Godden took to Instagram to post a one-word description of his former teammate, stating: "Animal".

With 41 goals in the Primeira Liga from 42 matches, the former Coventry man has been attracting interest from clubs all across Europe of late, with Premier League Champions Manchester City one of those to be linked and seeing first hand what he is capable of.

Gyökeres' form has attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea previously, whilst reports have claimed current boss Ruben Amorim wants to take the player to Man United.

However, the Sky Blues have done well to manage losing such an important figure, and the team should be on the right track, even if they missed out on the top six last season.

Coventry stand to benefit handsomely from a sell-on clause, which is believed to have dipped from 15% initially agreed. However, Coventry Live report how Coventry have bagged an additional £2.5 million in add-ons since the transfer.

The sell-on now stands at 10%, with Coventry waiting in the wings for a windfall from any Gyökeres transfer activity. That is surely on the horizon for them and the Swede, as his form becomes difficult to ignore for multiple clubs around Europe.
