La Liga giants Barcelona have on Friday been dealt a fresh blow on the injury front.
This comes amid a string of updates surrounding the wellbeing of defensive stalwart Andreas Christensen.
Alarm bells surrounding Danish international Christensen were first set ringing earlier this afternoon.
This came upon manager Hansi Flick, during his pre-Athletic Club press conference, providing the following update on the former Chelsea man:
“I’ve spoken to Christensen, he has some problems and he trained alone today. As he is now, he cannot help the team. Last year he played a few games with problems and we have to look after him. He is a very good defender and it is important for the club to have him at 100%. He cannot help us at only 80%.”
As much was followed by confirmation that the 28-year-old has been ruled out of Barca’s 2nd outing of the La Liga campaign on Saturday evening.
And the ensuing word to have surfaced over the hours since has only continued to add to the concern.
First, Relevo dropped the bombshell that Christensen, in fact, could be facing up to a spell of around two months out of action.
As much was then backed by Barcelona insider Gerard Romero, albeit with the Jijantes reporter having since clarified that:
‘Andreas’ injury is “hoped” to last less than two months. The player believes that he will be recovered and available in a month.’
Whatever proves to be the case, the Blaugrana look set to be without a core member of their defensive setup for an extended period moving forward.
