It’s been quite the tough start for Ruben Amorim at Man United, and it’s got even tougher with the news that Kobbie Mainoo is now on the injury list.
PremierInjuries note that all of Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Altay Bayindir and Jonny Evans were already ruled out before the news via The Athletic (subscription required) that Mainoo would be out for at least a couple of weeks.
Not only that, but Toby Collyer and Manuel Ugarte have also picked up knocks and are unlikely to play in the match against Tottenham Hotspur.
It’s a season that’s going from bad to worse and makes Amorim’s claim of a Premier League title in three years sound a little hollow.

Such bravado might be because of a potential €150m bid for Julian Alvarez, amongst other potential transfer plans.
Certainly, the mood needs to change both on and off the pitch for a significant improvement to be seen.
Amorim remains steadfast in his belief that the way he understands football is the way for United to become successful once more, but he isn’t going to be helped by so many players being unable to compete.
Arguably, that’s something that didn’t assist Erik ten Hag either, and the Dutchman had a cogent argument that with a fully fit squad to choose from, his United would’ve been much better off.
Not given the chance to prove his point, Amorim will need to rally the troops and not lean into the same excuses from his predecessor.
Another loss against Spurs won’t do anything to change current perceptions, and the quicker Mainoo and his colleagues return, the better.
