Atlético Madrid star Antoine Griezmann has today moved to issue an apology to Inter Milan counterpart Alexis Sánchez.

This comes after the France international was responsible for a frankly needless dig at Sánchez during last night’s Champions League showdown between the clubs.

Atlético, of course, are fresh off sending Serie A leaders Inter packing from Europe, courtesy of a penalty shootout triumph at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The aforementioned Sánchez, for his part, was one of those to have fluffed his lines from 12 yards, directing a weak effort at goal which was comfortably kept out by Jan Oblak.

And amongst those to have been most excited by the former Arsenal man’s miss, was Antoine Griezmann.

Watching on from the sidelines after being hooked from proceedings during extra-time in Madrid, Atléti’s star frontman was spotted by the cameras of Movistar, loudly insulting Sánchez:

“Cagón! Es un cagón el chileno!”, translating roughly as ‘S**t! The Chilean is a s**t!”

The outburst was widely labelled as having been in poor taste post-match, with Sánchez having been left absolutely crestfallen by his error.

In turn, with the dust having now settled on matters in Madrid, Griezmann today moved to issue an apology to his Inter counterpart.

As per a report from Marca, the former made direct contact with Sánchez, to both explain his actions, and assure that he is sorry.

Griezmann was adamant that he was simply attempting to further motivate Rojiblancos shot-stopper Jan Oblak, and meant the veteran attacker no offence.

And Sánchez, for his part, fully understood, ‘completely ruling out that he was really convinced that Alexis did not have the capacity to take the penalty’.
