Antwerp announce retirement of ex Ajax, Middlesbrough and Mainz 05 winger Viktor Fischer at just 29 | OneFootball

Antwerp have released a statement confirming that 29-year-old winger Viktor Fischer is set to retire from football. The reason that has been given is due to a lingering injury, with Fischer’s contract with Antwerp coming to an end with immediate effect. Fischer had been on loan at AIK in Sweden, but that has now also come to an end with the news.

Fischer began his career at Ajax, where he made 111 appearances and scored 33 goals between 2012 and 2016. This form earned him a move to Middlesbrough, where he made 16 appearances without scoring. After just a year in England, he moved to Mainz 05, where he scored twice in 12 matches. Fischer only spent half a season with the German side before he departed for his native Denmark to join FC Copenhagen. Between 2018 and 2021 he played 118 games for the side and scored 28 goals. Antwerp then signed him in the summer of 2021, where he made a bright start but injuries curtailed his time at the club. After 35 appearances and three goals he was loaned to AIK in the winter of 2023. Fischer managed 12 games and two goals before the announcement of his retirement.

At international level, the winger made 21 appearances and scored three goals.
