After the sides 0-0 draw with Cercle Brugge at the weekend, Antwerp have announced that they have parted ways with head coach Jonas De Roeck. The former Westerlo man joined in the summer to oversee a season of transition for the club. Despite securing a top six finish, the Great Old have decided to part ways with De Roeck after a run of disappointing results.

Antwerp looked to cut costs in the summer, with De Roeck being a cheaper option that previous head coaches. However, he started well at the club and met expectations of a top six finish with just two games to go. He could, therefore, feel reasonably hard done by to be sacked just before the play-offs start. However, clearly the hierarchy at the club have not been impressed with recent performances. Perhaps, with a head coach of the caliber of Phillipe Clement available for work, they decided now might be the time to find someone new.

De Roeck should have no trouble finding another job in Belgium come the summer. It is likely that there will be a few opportunities for him by then.
